It's that time - and we have new dedicated gallery sub-categories for the seasons, including autumn or fall (http://dpnow.com/galleries/showgallery.php/cat/860). Of course if you are in the sourthern hemisphere - it's spring (http://dpnow.com/galleries/showgallery.php/cat/862) time, I know :)

To find the new categories, go to the Nature (http://dpnow.com/galleries/showgallery.php/cat/568) main category in the gallery - it's still early days, so we need more seasonal pictures there.

Here's a few I took at the weekend:

No - I'm not sure why they are called Lime trees as they aren't (AFAIK) members of the citrus family.

Well, pending the wife and little Lotus.... I wil be getting up bright and earl tomorrow morning to go to Richmond Park.

So hopefully will get some nice Autumn shots there.

My main reason is to try and catch some rutting dear, but this will be a nice alternative as well :D

I really needed a tripod today to narrow the apperture so as I could have got the log in focus! Ah well, maybe next time.

There are some lovely shots for the autumn assignment. Heres my addition from today:

This is quite a bit darker on here than in my editor even though I profiled the monitor last weekend. With the Spyder 2 you are given a certain tolerance and I managed to get it to '0' so I thought it would be OK. I must admit things did seem a bit darker than usual - so what/who is right? Do I go by my eye or the Spyder?

The Spyder may well be clever but it didn't see the scene like your eye did.
Indeed it seems to have combined sunlight with nightime

Hi Audrey, if your image has a wide gamut, it's very likely that there will be a tonal shift when displayed on via a Web browser as most browsers do not support colour managed colour space in images.

The one exception I know of is the Safari browser. But the problem remains that 99% of everyone else not using Safari will see your pictures differently.

Hi Caz

Very attractive lighting on the first picture; also the subject. I like it.

The second one could do without the branch hanging from the top, it would then give the viewer a clearer view of the headland. Also a little off the bottom would not be missed. It is still a pleasant picture though.

I also use Spyder 2, both on the CRT and on the laptop LCD.

I just let the Spyder get on with the job. The only manual setting I do are the White Luminance and the Black Luminance.

My settings are :-

Gamma 2.2
White point 6500K
Luminance Visual

I don't tick any of the boxes for .........

RGB sliders
Kelvin Slider
Kelvin presets.

I prefer to leave those alone and treat the monitors as though those options weren't available to me.

The method has always worked well for me and I've never had any problems with either screen. Prints come back from Photobox the same as I see them on the screens too - so that's ok as it's the prints that are ultimately most important to me.

If it got more technical than that I'd run a mile.

Hope that helps.

I'm using a Spyder 2Pro too and as the CD that comes with it is dual platform installed the Mac version on my new iMac. The resulting profile created was extremely magenta and after trying it 3 times decided it was a non starter. I then had a flash of inspiration and checked the Colorvision site to see if there was a newer driver. Sure enough there was, so downloaded and installed that. A perfect result. Moral..... check you have the latest drivers.

Do you fiddle about with the RGB sliders yourself - or are you like me, just letting the Spyder get on with everything itself?

I've never 'twiddled' with anything other than setting the white/black luminance (brightness/contrast) myself and I've never had any problems whatsoever with screen colours, nor with screen and print colours matching up.

The only control I have is screen brightness, so I leave everything to the Spyder

Mine isn't the "Pro" version. If I didn't move the sliders, nothing happens. When I first had it, I didn't know how to move the sliders and when I had finished, I hadn't done anything - the profile was just the same. All I am doing is following the instructions for an TFT screen.

Not many LCD monitors offer adjustments beyond brightness. With better CRT screens you can alter the separate primary colour 'guns' (RGB) and so establish an ideal colour balance to build the profile on.

Audrey - sorry you didn't like the branch, but I had actually framed the shot to include it! Thank you for your comments about the horses - it was a beautiful sunrise, with mist rising from the valley. I've taken several photos of those horses as I pass them - they seem to hold some kind of fascination for me!

Ekkl - I'd love to be able to walk through those colourful trees - particularly the last one: you a lot further south than me or what? Don't get many palms round here! My favourite would be the first one - a misty quality.

And Stan, that's a cracking shot of Powys (at least, I think that's where it is). The trees contrast well with the brickwork.

Finally, here's my latest twopennorth. Something different from trees or landscape - taken at our local Harvest Festival supper. We're "Eydon Ladies", not WI any more - they charge too much and don't drink enough! ;) :D

Caz, the place is in Brighton called Stanmer Park. The woods are sort of around and behind the university there.

I am waiting for a clear night so it should be misty in the morning and will get up as the sun comes up, I really can't wait to do that as I think it would look amazing.

The Palm Tree is at the rear of Stanmer house. The reson I took that was to give a bit of a contrast to the surrounding autumn scene.

Your picture is great too. I like the way it is not the usual trees and stuff, I really like that!

Paul.

Paul - I do know Brighton slightly: my son was at uni there until last year, but I don't remember that bit! Possibly because I was usually taking him to his digs - the last set were in Old Steane with a wonderful view of the bubble blowing bus station ;)

Hi Gina -

We were quite some distance I was using an Olympus E-3 (My 65th Birthday gift from Anne 12 days ago) with a 70-300 lens. I used A mode F6.3 1/200" iso 400 and a focal length of 120mm.

They not only have amazing hearing but also seem to have good eyesight. They see you before you see them - unless you are lucky.
-------------------------------------------------------

There are some tame ones that will almost eat out of your hands at Knole Park Kent - well worth a visit. The grounds are quite extensive and the house is worth exploring - steeped in history.

Thanks so much for your comments and I love your reindeer icons.
