We call this one Waynetta because she's a slob, totally lacking in the social graces even by squirrel standards. It was Waynetta who showed me how squirrels pee - I'd never thought about it until she decided to show me. :D

She also very unfeminine - a bully who shoves her little brothers and sisters also her mum off the nuttery. She managed to shove one of her little sisters smartly off the feeder and straight into the birdbath this morning! *LOL

Here she is looking sweet and innocent with shafts of sunlight coming through the trees as she chomps her way through more than her share of the peanuts.

Awww....

TBH, if you look closely you can see a semi-permanent snarl etched onto her face. And an anchor tattooed on her upper arm...

What's that she's eating......her brother?

I like it :D

Every year there's at least one of the young squirrels that kinda stands out amongst all the others and this year it's Waynetta. We've rarely had one quite like her. *LOL

I really wish I'd had the camera in my hand when she smacked her little sister off the platform and straight into the middle of the birdbath. She made such a splash the nuttery got soaked, as did Waynetta's tail. It was hilarious - but she managed to climb out ok and scuttled off back home to her mum. :D

I'm in awe that you can recognise individual squirrels - or do you do this by their actions :)

Good sharp shot, Pol - did you use a tripod? How's that arm of yours now?

Of course Pol can recognise individual squirrells! Some of 'ours':
JimBob
Billy Joe
Jethro
John-Boy Twins
Cotton Eye
Nifty
Shifty
etc.

Have you noticed the way bad tempered squirrels bite each other on the bum, just where the tail joins their bodies?

Sums it up nicely! *LOL

Waynetta's definitely not the runt of the latest litter. She about twice the size of the others now 'cos she's the only one 'allowed' to use the nuttery. :D

It's mostly by their antics. There are maybe 5 young ones running about at the moment and the only other one that's distinctive is the one that went swimming ...... 'cos she's always trying to challenge Waynetta. :D

I didn't use the tripod though I might have been using the monopod - can't remember. I was sitting on a bench not too far away so that one was near enough full frame iirc.

My arm is just about 100% back to normal now, thanks. I've tried handholding the 500mm a few times recently but only for a very short time and mostly when I've been sitting - or been right next to some form of seat. It gets too heavy otherwise.
