Hi,

I shot this a few nights back when my wife and I took a ride to a park on the southern shore of Lake Erie. I wasn't too optimistic about how it would turn out but it has grown on me after looking at the result. Taken with Oly E-500 and 40-150mm kit lens. Minimal PP with LightRoom. Comments are welcome.

Thanks,

Blithe

Really like the 'all over' colour of this photograph, with its just discernible horizon, very calming and restful. The sun's reflection bisected by the narrow land strip is just in the right place. It all works, the layers taking me upwards to that pale lilac/pink sky at the top. Roll on summer evenings. :)

Hi Jim - that's a nice looking scene, very idyllic and I'm sure it has captured the moment nicely for you.

I'm curious to know if the exposure was a long one, maybe with the camera on a tripod as the outline of the sun is quite soft; maybe it moved during the long exposure?

Hi Ian,

The shot was taken hand held, F5.0, 1/160 sec. The softness is probably due to the amount of haze in the area and the shot being hand held. The people on the end of the point look fairly sharp at a 100% view so perhaps the haze was the major contributor.

Thanks for looking,

Yes you're right, the rest of the shot is sharp - which is why I was wondering :)

Hello Jim
I find most sunset shots a bit boring and uninteresting but this is indeed an exception. It's very calming and has lots more to look at besides the sun.
Very nice scene Jim

Hi Tom,

Thanks for your response. I liked the idea of the people sitting on the long pier watching the sunset.
