View Full Version : Fortnightly Salon Competition No. 18 - Temptation
Thanks to JDS9000 for running the last Salon ....
The theme for Salon 18 is ...
T E M P T A T I O N
Feel free to interpret this in any way you see fit. Should get the old grey matter working.
Does that new sports car tempt you? A beautiful garden, a holiday scene, do your tropical fish throw temptation your cat's way? The choice is yours!
If you have never entered a competition before, why not give this one a try? - remember the guidelines set out below and the best of luck. Remember to enjoy taking your photo's.
Good luck to everyone who takes part & thank you everyone for your kind comments! The salon ends 5.00pm Monday 11th June 2007.

Well, as I didnt get the chance to enter the last one, I thought I would be first to enter this one!
Many congratulations on winning the previous Salon Gina, a great, and worthy shot!
Well, here's my entry for temptation!
This is a baby squirell that had just climbed down a tree, poor little fella was then greated by my freinds Jack Russell.
Please note, no squirells, Jack Russells or Photographers were harmed in the execution of this photograph

Cheers coupekid.
What a great capture, looks like the squirrel is in shock! Love the disclaimer too. I bet that Jack Russell was tempted! :D

Cheers Gina,
It was a lot of fun taking the picture, he spotted the squirrel, and I saw him slowly getting closer and closer, I fired off a couple before my freind pulled him away.

Hi Kurt,
Good shot and expression and a nice feeling about the picture. My only question is ... what is the white hanging thing? Is it a fish?
Audrey,
Ooooh ! Did you make this creation of confection yourself? :) A good use of lighting.
DTD,
A great subtle but striking black and white shot. I love the shadows.
Thank you for your entries so far in this salon.
Come on everyone, get your shutters shutting and think of something that relates to TEMPTATION - upload your entry to your DPNow photo gallery and cut and paste here.
1st PRIZE wins a 2GB Kingston Ultimate high-speed memory card.

Well I had intended posting a photo of a wonderful baked Alaska we had on the ship :) But I reckon one scrumptious pudding is enough for any Salon *LOL
Anyway, I was surely tempted by this one, which I drank at our lunch on board the train taking us North. :)

Hi ryme-intrinseca,
Did you have a zoom lens with you? heh heh!! I can see how this fits in with the theme - nice one t-up
Love the rocks in the distance. Was it cold? there weren't too many people about that day.
Great entry.

Thank you for the comments, Gina.
I have to admit, I wasn't too pleased with the photo. I would have much preferred that the sky was more interesting. The sun rises behind those rocks ('Old Harry Rocks') and I imagine it looks lovely, but as I don't drive, I can't get there early to take photos.
Yes, it was very cold, but there were still people on the nudist beach!

Hi Audrey,
Well now! Its the ORIGINAL sin or 'Temptation' isn't it! Portrayal of that is.....I wasn't about to hang live serpents on my subjects tho'! The Garden of Eden & the 7 deadly sins was it? :D *eyebrows The apple tasted gooooood BTW!

Water! We had just climbed Ragleth Hill and it was well under half way around our planned route, but the temptation to finish the water was hard to resist.

There have been some clever interpretations of this latest theme, so I figured I'd lower the tone and go with something a tiny bit saucy. I realise that our curator is female and this shot may not appeal on quite the same level as it would to a man, but I'll take my chances anyway :D
The photo was taken in Jan 2005 in the studio using a 2.7MP Nikon D1 SLR. I did a fair bit of glamour stuff back then, whereas now I tend only to shoot fully-clothed women, if at all. **Sigh**

All I can say is that as a professional I had my hands on the camera and my mind on the job, but under any other circumstances.........well I'd have probably been tempted ;)
Not sure what my better half would've said about that, however :o
Hi everyone,
There are some brilliant entries in this salon and I'm definitely going to have a hard time picking the winner here.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far and if not, you still have until tomorrow afternoon to submit your masterpiece.
I shall announce the winner and 2 runners up tomorrow.

Hi everyone,
Well here are the results ...
But firstly, may I say a big thank you to all that took part.
Coupekid's Squrrel and Jack Russell
Kurt's dried salty fish
Autumn's Lemon Meringue
DTD's black and white podcross
ryme-intrinseca's nudist beach
Stephen's beer
pewidane's Advertisement
jojo's Carlsberg
Jocelyn's serpent and apple
Cowcrzy06's son
Tom's roof tops
Vlarcombe's water bottle and
Bearface's (ahem) ... woman!
It really is amazing how many different interpretations of a theme there are. I have found it difficult to judge the entries as they all have their own merit. I wish everyone could win!
Anyway ...
THE WINNER IS
COUPEKID
C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S
This was the first submission and I thought it captured the theme precisely, it's a cracking shot ... very well done to you.
2nd place goes to ... Bearface
Loved this shot, captured the theme of temptation well. Fabulous work.
3rd place goes to ... Autumn for her lemon meringue, it made my mouth water
I loved your entry Jocelyn, the whole setup was well thought out.
Finally, before I hand the reins over to coupekid I'd like to thank you all for participating.

Congratulations to Ben and to Audrey and thanks to Gina for choosing my glamour pic as runner-up; I really didn't think it'd make the top three :)
Thanks for running such a difficult salon Gina. Also thanks for choosing my Pavlova as third - so unexpected.
Congratulations to Coupekid for his winning picture and to Cheeky Bearface for his rude lady.:D
Just back from a week in the sunny Greek isles - congratulations Ben, a worthy winner (did like that lemon meringue from Audrey though!) Once again there were some cracking entries. Thank you Gina for a great theme.
