Thanks to Jocelyn for running the last Salon ....
The theme for Salon 17 is 'GENERATIONS' ... (Not the 'Star Trek' ones !!)
Pretty free to do as you please here ..... Animal, Vegetable, Mineral ?? .... Old/young people/animals ... new/old buildings ?
Good luck to all who participate & thank you one & all for your kind comments! The salon ends midnight 27th May.
............and the Rules
1) All photographs are to be uploaded to the photo gallery at http://dpnow.com/galleries/, they can be put in members own gallery if they wish. The resulting link generated for the photo will then be pasted into the next available space in the Salon thread.
2) One entry per user ID only please, which must be the personal work of the entrant
3) Entries should be "in line" within the thread (not as links to an image held somewhere else)
4) Comments only on entries are welcome within the salon thread itself
5) After the close the curator will indicate a winner and a couple of runners up.
6) The curator's decision is final.
7) Winners should be offered first refusal to choose the next theme and curate the next salon.
8.) If the winner is unable to curate the next salon the current curator may offer that "honour" to any willing volunteer, possibly the entrant in second or third place
9) These rules are to be copied and pasted with a new theme by the new Curator at the top of the new Salon thread with a finish date and time
10) As with all photos posted on DPNow, copyright remains with the photographer and DPNow will not use them without permission.
Good Luck

PS Somewhere I have a big grinning shot of William Shatner (aka Capt. James T. Kirk) at a press conference for a new telephone service he was launching at a trade show I was reporting on back in around 1989. He could turn that smile on like a light with a switch.

Well done Gina, a nice close crop shot of a 'classic Generations' photo. I've seen a similar photo done in 'filtered' black and white, .... is it a Sepia finish ?

Hello Jay,
Yes, the photo is slightly sepia. I decided to take the opportunity to put some real effort into this salon as it's a favourite subject of mine so thank you so much for choosing it. I had to work fast with the camera on the tripod and set to self-timer and getting my 10 month old grandson to keep his hand still for 10 seconds wasn't easy. Patience and teamwork paid off this time.
Cheers for your kind words.

What a great photo .... at the time I suppose it would appear an ordinary shot, but due to the events in the country's history, very poignant and provocative.
It makes you wonder, who and where would they be now ...
Good composition .... imho ..... two subjects,..... but the insignia on the flag,
and also the great big building in the background ....
..... really works for me ...
Thanks for sharing this one !!

It's a blackbird which has taken over my greenhouse. I've had to move all my plants out so as not to disturb her. Took this shot when she popped out to have a pee. :D The greenhouse is right out side my bedroom window so will be keeping an eye on her.

Great stuff - we had a blackbird pair nesting in am overgrown Ivy for several years. Used to get the moggies going, though they never got close (the Ivy was THAT thick).
Unfortunately, the Ivy was in danger of pulling the fence it was growing on down. so it had to be heavily pruned at the beginning of the year - well before nesting time.

That's a delightful story and I hope they hatch safely and do well. :)
If you want to help out - they'd be chuffed if you left them some earthworms. They also enjoy mealworms, available from various sources such as THIS one. (http://tinyurl.com/3aaoyc) Don't forget to leave water too .... preferably in a wide bowl so they can splash about in it as well as drink it. :D

Pol my greenhouse has been organized like a 5 star hotel. The only thing we have over looked is a Bible. :D Shade has also been arranged so that the temperature don't get to high.

are getting covered in leaves, I can only just make out the front, so it's difficult

Hi Burry,

Hi Jeremy
It is a lake. And the girl is with her grandfather (I suppose, because I don't know them, but it looks as a grandfather - he was a lot older. I was sitting there at the lake to take photos of waterskiing and suddenly they stood there next to me).

Apparently it uses the acid in the friut/veg to charge a battery cell which in turn runs the clock.Strangely enough it did work!I can't remember exactly how it works as it was a couple of years since we bought it.Shaun

Thanks jds, it was taken with my trusty Kodak 6490 which I've now handed down to my 19yr old son. It's a shame the lighting wasn't a bit better or I was a bit better with photochop, it's a bit dull at the top.

Sorry ... had a busy day, can't wait till midnight !! :o
Well .... after much thought .... several cups of coffee, the odd cream cake, and a couple of printouts .....
In 3rd place ... Paul.R.W ... with a great 'historical' photo of four generations of smiley faces .... one for the family album for years to come .... :D
In 2nd place ... Pewidane ... with an evocative picture taken when the world looked decidedly different. I'm not sure if it's the history, or the lined face of the man who 'knows', or of the 'innocence' in the little girls face, but this one really 'works' for me ... :)
... anyway ... and now .... (at last they say !) *ipop
1st place, and with a 'classic' 'hands of time' shot ... GINA ... *yes CONGRATULATIONS *chr *clap
I picked this one because it is what I would call instantly recognisable as a 'generations' photo. It was the first thing I thought of when picking the subject, so congratulations once again ...
You have the honour of naming the next Salon Theme! Don't forget to attach the rules when posting title!
May I just say that I was impressed with all the pictures ... Stan's birds, and Ladaman98 only just missed out .... even Vernons computer parts, and Burry's lake, or even Autumn's Sphinx, also Blithe and Tom for the architecture. They all represent a subject 'seen' from a different 'angle' by the taker.
It goes to show that whenever you look at a photo, it can be interpreted in so many ways by diferent people. ...... I know what I mean anyway !!
