View Full Version : Sharpcast Photos service testing - anyone interested?
I'm in the process of trying out the new Sharpcast Photos (http://sharpcast.com) service - I need some third parties to try the system out with; sharing photos mainly.
I've had a demo of the system and it looks very interesting and it can be used for free in its basic (image resolution limited) form or for a small charge per month for the full version. Among many things, Sharpcast promise to store an unlimited number of your JPEG images on their servers. But the system also has some instant messenger-like functionality and real-time sharing.
If you are interested in taking part in this test experiment on DPNow - let me know :)

Hi Ian, any takers yet? I've signed up anyway and uploaded an album of over 300 shots that just happens to be also my screensaver ;) So I'm up and running if that's any help

Its somewhat unfortunate though that the printing service they offer is only for the US. I have a shed load of stuff needs doing, looks like it will have to be Photobox :)

I like Photobox, last time I had 20 10x8 printed, I ordered at 9.30 on a Sunday night, they arrived in the morning post on Tuesday, can't beat that and all for £21.50:D
And I was happy with the results

In my experience, if you place a weekday order with Photobox (http://photobox.co.uk/dp-now) on as late as 4PM, you will receive the prints the next morning.
Don't forget, if you don't see the DPNow logo when you log in to PhotoBox, your order won't be helping DPNow! :)
Go to http://www.photobox.co.uk/dp-now if you are new to the service.

Printing is kind of a sideline - it's the concept of instant sharing and unlimited storage that really makes this SharpCast rock. Anyway, I'd be surprised if a local printing service for the UK wasn't in the wings.

Looks like you signed up through Orange. In the past, people have successfully requested through Photobox customer support that they would like to be re-designated a DP-Now (the old hyphenated form) Photobox user. You could try if you like. I'd like to know if you are successful. You have to see the DPNow logo when logged in if any of your Photobox business is to earn DPNow a commission.

Just thought I'd bump this thread.
I'm in the process of evaluating this software atm and so far have found it very good and simple to use. There is at present a DPNow test album accumulating in size :) So if you sign up with Sharpcast, Ian will no doubt send you an invitation to add to it.
One small thing it will do is create what are called Widgets from selected images. This is a piece of HTML code which is generated and you can copy and past onto your site and it shows a small slideshow of the selected images. I've used the same sort of thing on Photobucket, but nevertheless its all pretty slick :) I've put one on my HOME (http://stephen-anstey.com) page as an example.
There is a good deal of potential in this program, esp if you are into sharing your photos with friends and family.
I just clicked on "HOME" which brought me to the Sharpcast box containing your pics. It ran as a slide show but when I stopped it to see the name/details of an image with iron balls on it, there was no detail. Neither was there on any of your images.
That is a turn off for me. I like images to have a name. If it is there, it wasn't obvious to me.
PS This is in reply to Stephen's last post.
