Thanks Pedar,

I really have no bias or brand loyalty and my personal opinion is to search for an FZ30. If you can't find it, buy another camera, but not the FZ50.

The seed head (#3) with each separate little parachute showing distinctly, is quite beautiful against the blue sky - you've captured the softness of them perfectly. It also looks warm, with the sunlight just encroaching from the left.

All are highly colourful, but the red poppy, it jumps from the screen. Oh, roll on Summer. :)

Indeed last week, when I took these photos in my country place, it was warm (26-28C). There were some groups of foreign tourists swimming in the sea, though for us the Greeks the weather is still not warm enough to swim.
The weather forecast said that from this coming Wednesday the temperature is rising more. Well, the summer is nice but it gets really very hot over here and it is quite uncomfortable to move around with 40-42C average summer temperature.

Hi George - Any reason why you say in an earlier post in this thread 'not the FZ50'. Does it not give as good a quality of result as the FZ30 or is it a difference in size/handling or something else ?

Everyone a gem George. I love to see blooms taken from different angles like you have done with these.
Wasn't to keen on that crazy paving showing in the last shot but I can live with it.

Hi Dennis,

The FZ30 (8MP) and the FZ50 (10MP) in terms of looking and handling are identical. They are exactly the same cameras, same features, same everything.
Though, the FZ50's image quality using same sensor like the FZ50 suffers a lot from artifacts even at ISO100. There is smearing and water paint effect even at the lowest ISOs.
I had hard time digging and finding the FZ30 myself here in Greece as the camera is a year and a half model and has been outsold already. Plenty of FZ50s in the shelves remain though.
While I can suggest the FZ30, I cannot do the same for the FZ50.
Though it is up for someone to compare sample images from both cameras and decide, but personally I do not want to be blamed for something I cannot suggest, having in mind the ambition of all people to spend their money in order to get something to enjoy and be happy with.
Also more Megapixels is not always the way to go, especially in the non DSLR market and sometimes even in the DSLRs.

As far as the last shot is concerned, you might live with it as you say, but here is an alternative version (as I have for all my photos) that probably look better ;)

Hi George

This collection is superb - I really like the way the blooms just burst on to or even out of the screen.

I dont know what you do, but I do like the vibrance you capture in your images. I think its the light you have in your part of the world.

Nice shots

This I like very much. The underside can be made to look just as photogenic as the more usual above shot. They stand out and give a lot of impact as well as a completely different perspective.
Lovely sky you have there as well and nicely balanced with the blue paintwork.

I like the third one George. The sharpness is really something on this one. Full credit to your camera and your steady hand.

I like them all! Not doing too well with flower shots with my Canon, but I'm practising.

My favourites are the first poppy and the dandelion, which so delicate

They are all beautiful George, but my favourites are the seed head, the poppy and the white iris.

I am not trying to detract from your photography George, because whatever you display, it seem to be so sharp and well exposed but I do think the light in these warm countries helps with the vibrancy of colour.:)

Thanks Audrey,

Of course the intense sunshine helps and boosts vibrancy. I didn't claim the opposite. Actually, I've seen vibrant shots from all users here at DPNow myself.

Nice shots

Mike,

I don't really do anything with the vibrancy. It is just the intense bright sunshine in these photos. The only thing I do is that I position the camera differently according to where the light is coming from an of how intense it is.

I would like to write something but I don't want to be misunderstood like playing smart or anything else. Though I see that you have the will and like to practice towards the better, so I will tell you this in a metaphoric somehow way (that you probably already know part or all of it).

Photography: Is a Greek synthetic word (fos + grafi)
fos in Greek means "Light"
grafi in Greek means "Writing"

Photography means "writting with light"

The more appropriate you use the light to write, the better you will write ;)
The most important thing in photography is to use the light appropriately (whatever that is, natural or artificial, intense or weak) each time according to your theme and the all the rest like framing, zooming, e.t.c are of less importance.

Please, don't misunderstand my intentions of writing this. It is totally friendly and not in a way of playing "Expert".

I'm not sure why you refer to Tinka as "Gert".

'Gert' is a personal nickname of my husband - an oblique reference to a quote from Hamlet.

Tinka is NOT my husband - nor does he go by the same nickname as my husband, as far as I know.

My husband does not post in these forums - so he would be most grateful if you would stop applying his nickname to others, thus giving the impression he does.

Thank you.

I thought Tinka's real name is Gert, like Archangel's is George. That is all Pol. All the rest are your assumptions.

Besides that, I don't know your husband, his name or his nickname to refer to, as he never posted in these forums as you say and I'm surprised how could you imagine such thing.

Hi George and Tinka

Sorry I didn't reply yesterday - was out celebrating a pay rise (not mine, unfortunately).

Absolutely no offence taken George, as Tinka has said, knowledge is for sharing and you've phrased it absolutely right!

And finally, efcharisto and kalinichta - sorry, a little out of practice, long time since I did a course in Greek!

Caz,

While it might have been long time ago since you did a course in Greek, I must admit that you remember Greek very well :)
The only thing remains is to practice your Greek in some Greek island the summertime along with your camera :)

Take care Caz.

Funny you should say that George - I was going to post some of the flowers I took in Crete at the end of last month. Went on a last minute holiday - booked on the Saturday lunchtime, flew Monday morning.

However, when I saw your photos I thought 'what's the point' as yours as so much better. Still, I'll now post them in critique, and you can tell me what you think of mine.

Didn't know that Caz. Next time you get to Greece, if you come in Athens, I will be glad to take you around for snapping :)
I usually take flower shots for my wife mostly as she likes flowers a lot. There were a few times though, that I was impressed by some flowers myself too and snapped them.

It doesn't matter how my photos look. They would look somehow anyway. That is not a reason not to post yours. If you do have some issues with your camera's macro we can discuss that if you wish. I will pm you for that later ;)
