Noticed I haven't done much conversion to B&W lately, so trying it out on some older pics of mine, for what it's worth!:\

These 'through the woods' type of shots always provide a nice 'silent' mood and I think your first one does this very well. I used to take a lot of these many moons ago and never really managed to get a satisfactory result.

I don't usually go a bundle on B and W, but I have been looking at these photographs and I do like them. I prefer the second simply because the ferns are larger in the frame and show more pattern and texture in the shadows. Also the sunlight is more apparent in the second. I have seen photographs where the trees are B and W with the forest floor keeping the colour, I find myself wondering if coloured ferns would add something, or is that too 'arty'? :)

OOooh, not too arty, just too difficult for me to do....try making good selections around all those leaves & fronds to make selective toning....aaaaarrrggghh!

Hello Jocelyn, it's not perfect, but this is what I meant. I selected areas and added the green with variations. I've been doing it with some of my own photographs, but can't decide whether it's too unnatural or not. Sometimes when I look through trees, the way the light creates heavy shadows and shafts of light, it can almost look like this. I really hope you don't mind me playing with your photograph. :)

I don't mind you editing my pics & welcome the critique & suggestions Blithe, thanks! I'm not too keen on the green hue! I prefer the actual coloured pic or B&W. It looks a bit unnatural apart from the light effect! I do see what you mean, but the treefern green is a much lighter shade in real life!*wave
