View Full Version : e Trust Antivirus by Computer Associates

For over a week now I have been having problems with my A/V software using up my memory.

I traced it to the Service Manager and stopped the eTrust antivirus job server. The problem is that it starts itself every time I boot up.

Another problem is that when I receive a file through MSM Messenger, a message appears saying:

Virus scan failed. Virus scan could not be completed. Please check your settings in Tools>Options>File Transfer. I have done this and the box saying "Scan Files for viruses using e Trust Antivirus is checked (ticked)".

I rang Computer Associates today, but of course it was the wrong department and the man should not really have helped me. I think he was in Belgium. However, he informed me that the department I needed was only available by e mail. He did, however, say that it could be a virus. I said I had scanned my computer several times but, apart from eTrust, it appears the other programs - Adaware, Spybot, etc, were not A/V progs. When I mentioned AVG he said yes that was a good one but before using it I would need to uninstall eTrust, run AVG and then reinstall eTrust (if I wanted to).

I have had eTrust running for just over 3 years now and haven't had a problem previously. I paid for 5 years.

I tried to uninstall eTrust through Add or Remove Programs. There were two entries one for the Antivirus software and one for the Registration.

I tried to uninstall the eTrust Antivirus software first and got the attached message Uninstall failed.

I then decided to try to uninstall the Registration, which was successful, but I still could not uninstall the Antivirus program.

I have a program Advanced Uninstaller 4 which I tried and I was supposed to be able to force uninstallation.

This did not work. However, I now have had to stop the e Trust Antivirus Realtime Server as well (as you can see in the attachment), in order to prevent it hogging all my memory.

I have downloaded AVG software and it is running, but I would like to uninstall e Trust, because that is also running and I feel there may be a conflict.

Can anyone help me to uninstall eTrust Antivirus please?

Although it is not very obvious, there are 2 files attached. The second little one perhaps has more information as to why it would not uninstall.

Thank you Coupekid.

Since putting my problem on the forum, I have had some hours of help from our friend George in Greece. It has not been an easy solution and as one problem was solved, so another reared its head.

However, I am pleased to say his expertise has won the day as my computer seem to be behaving itself now.

Thanks for all your attention George.:)
