Nice one, George - very nice indeed! t-up
I have no nightshots worth a second glance and have decided I need to rectify that. Therefore I shall be aiming to do something about it and aiming for some nightshots over the coming weeks and months.
I'm bursting with ideas for a few shots now. Hopefully one or two of them might work out successfully. *LOL

Some people will remember this shot as I've posted it before. Its one of my personal favourites and is the Ferris wheel outside Selfridges in Manchester.

No problem Pol,
These nice assignments will run all the time so there is always time to take new shots and pop in your Nightshots. :)

I'll definitely be aiming to do exactly that!
We've been discussing places we might go and try for shots, also been discussing possible campsites where there are nearby possible locations. ;)

Interesting assignment.
Meanwhile one from my archives that really should have stayed there. :)
Not exactly an exotic location.

Nice Pops.
I don't know if there is a limit of one photo per person in the assignments. I didn't read anything about that so far. Maybe Pol knows better to tell us.
If there is no limit in the photos posted per user then you can come up later with your exotic location ;)
Though a sucessfull pano.

Naah - no limits! Just keep working at any assignment - use them for stimulation, motivation, aiming to progress and improve skills. Then add the shots to the galleries and assignment thread as and when you want to.
Just an incentive to have some 'constructive' fun. No limits, no time limitations either.
The more you post and maybe describe how you got the shot - the more the rest of us can learn and be motivated to have a go at new things ourselves.

Thanks Polly,
I got more! Actually I have a shot of the Old Academy with almost the entire fountain visible. I will post that too.
And now that Stephen posted his shot with the wheel, he remind me some of my shots I took from a Luna Park last year.
The problem is that I try to find in which DVD I have them archived.
2 more DVDs left to search.

Such beautiful shots George, it's enough to put us off. And of course Stephen's Ferris wheel, which I have seen before, but it always looks good.
Here is mine. It it 5 shots stitched in Photoshop taken last September on a Canaries Cruise.

Beautiful location and you've done it justice with a beautiful shot. Those flowers in the foreground add a wonderful splash of colour too. t-up
There's nothing even remotely like that near where we live! The best I could hope for locally would be a shot of one of the High St Banks, which is lit up overnight. However, I'd probably be arrested as it's lit up for security reasons. :D

Hi, Here is a night shot from my galerie, it may have been posted before I am not sure. Believe it or not I do think that this is the only night shot I have ever taken.

Haha York Minster, though I think it wasn't so much lasers as a projection system. I took a few myself when they were doing it. Check out these (http://stephen-anstey.com/photos/York%20Minster%20Illuminated/default.html):)
Stephen I remember your pictures well, in fact after viewing them I was inspired to run hot foot to York and take my own. As I recall it was very crowded around the front of the cathedral and quite difficult to find a viewing position. I had forgotten about the light source been projected - don't know where I dreamt lasers up from.

A far cry from the swimming pool decks of the old castle marine ships that used to ply the oceans years back...& we thought those were great back then. Used to travel on them every 3 years on trips from Mombasa to Cape Town or Durban. They took 14 to 17 days calling in at all the African ports along East Coast.
It seems with this photo that the lights may have been toooo bright! The sky looks like daytime blue!

Interesting picture George. I like it. I am curious as to how you took it. I have seen this type of thing before, yes, it was Andrew Thatcher's POTD yesterday.
As I have absolutely no idea, I would guess you put your camera on a tripod and fastened it down at the back of the car somehow. Pre focussed before you started your journey and then set a timed exposure. So that is only my guess. How about telling me how it is really done?:D

Hi Audrey,
This photo might look simple, but it is not as simple as it looks just because:
1. Fixed out of the car things (buldings, trees, e.t.c) in relation to car movement, should be blurry.
2. Moving out of the car things (other moving cars) in relation to the car movement I was in, should be as clear and sharp as possible.
So everything in this photo is related to the movement and the relation of the objects in terms of movement with each other.
I did nothing from what you guessed, except the timed exposure :-)
I was sitting with the camera in the back seat, holding the camera with my hands and positioned it on the top of the car seat.
Stabilizer was on, I was shooting in shutter priority and set the shutter to 1/2 second, ISO200 and didn't use flash.
Much different shutter speeds will spoil the shot in terms of the relation of movement of moving and fixed objects.
For example, 1 second shutter will hardly do the job as everything might come out blurry, because the car I was in was moving too and there was a normal amount of shake.
Using the camera on a tight tripod won't make any difference as there is still shake transmitted from the car to the inner objects and humans in the car.
Faster shutters from 1/6 and down will ruin the blurring effect of the outer fixed objects (buildings, trees, e.t.c) in relation to movement.
So you have to play around with speeds of 1/6, 1/4 and 1/2 maximum.
A higher ISO will help for a more correct exposure.
Prefocus on an another neighbor moving vehicle is not advised as there might be sudden distance difference due to accelerations of that vehicle that might ruin the focus of other distant objects.
As you can see the photo is clear from inside the car to the far distant building and only the outer fixed objects appear blurry in relation to movement.
So what you finally have to do is:
Rest the camera against the top of the seat, while holding it with your hands, set ISO to a higher value of 200 (maybe you will need 400 in your Fuji, because of the absence of stabilizer), experiment with speeds from 1/6 to 1/2 sec and focus every time on an object approximately halfway distance from the car you are in to the far distant object you see in front of you.
If the objects that move along with the car that you are in don't come out clear, try to focus on another car left or right, slightly preceding and then when the camera acquires focus, turn it straight ahead and click.
This is pretty much the general things that you should do. Though different cameras have their own different habits and in this case you need to slightly experiment first sitting behind the car and snapping in order to refine the settings that work best for your camera. Though, those shouldn't be that much different from those I wrote before, slight variations of these settings are considered.
Also, you might want to use the camera in "Incandescent" mode to get the natural color of the environment.

Thanks for that information George. I hadn't looked closely enough - I thought you were driving:D
I must give it a try sometime. It is very effective and always nice to try something new.

No Audrey,
A friend of mine was driving as we were returning from a friendly night shootout.
I just sat in the back seat of my friend's car to do some last shots, making him feel somehow like a taxi driver :D

Hello George
Here is one from me. I don't do much night work but this one I got while on holidays in Italy.
