I love dogs, I'm crazy about them but can no longer keep them as we have neither the time nor the space or mobility to care for them properly. So I take shots of dogs when I'm out and about.

This is Louis, a beautiful yong softie who was waiting for his master to get off the train. His mistress was in a nearby shop so Louis and I had a conversation and he licked my hand then posed for me. :D

Yeah but I dare bet your duck shots will never receive the fame and acclaim of the one from 'Duckie Jarvis' ............ ROFLMAO

BTW - I build up confidence for getting candids and street shots by approaching dog owners, chatting to them and asking permission to take a shot of their dog.

She's a miniature Jack Russell, very easy to look after when his lordship is away. Not your usual JR, think I've only heard her bark about half a dozen times in 3 years.

Thanks Pol , Ben was bought as a direct replacement for my old Staffie 'Skip'
The day i took Skip down to the vets for the final time , i held his paw and then cryed my eyes out .
Went for a drive to get myself together and then decided with the wife to get another one that day .
Picked out a 3 week old Ben that evening and took him home 3 weeks later ..
Bens 3 in June and like all Staffies he's wonderful with people but not too good with dogs that challenge him , par for the course with the breed.
This was Ben at 8 weeks trying to climb on our 6inch high patio

I don't have a dog, but I like them very much since I was kid. It looks that they like me too.

A friend of mine bought some years ago a Rotwailer for protection for his store and sent it for a month of training to these special dog training centers. He took it back but this dog was too aggressive since he was born and different compared to other Rotwailers in behavior. They even told him that after he picked it up from the training center. Finally he was afraid to keep the dog in the store just in case he rips apart someone. So he took it home and kept it in the balcony behind double 5mm glass rolling doors.

One day I visited him and he wanted to do a test. Anybody who was going close to the balcony glass doors the dog started barking like crazy and jumping on the doors. So he asked me too, to go too behind the glass doors.
I went and the dog came from the other side and was looking at me very quiet and didn't even barked or jumped not even once.
He was so surprised and asked me to go with him out in the balcony. So we went out and the dog was still quiet. Then he left me alone there with the dog and the dog was still quiet.
At the end he told me that the only person the dog never barked was to him and to me. Even to his wife and kids it was barking many times.

So I guess the dogs generally like me as I never had any trouble even with those stray ones on the street. I hope one day (in the next 2-3 years) when I plan to built my own house to get one nice Wolfdog, as I've always wanted, since didn't happen yet.

This is a photo of someone's dog that I took when I was sitting in a cafe and he came and sat next to me for quite sometime.

Aha, a Schnauzer! I always regarded that as an ideal name for a breed of doggs 'cos I always refer to their nose (combined with the snout0 as thier 'geschozzle', or abbreviated to a 'schnozz'. I'm entralled by the design of dogs' noses, fantastic olfactory organs, outstanding designs. 10/10 the the Good Lord's Doggie design department. :D

Snoopy looks like a joyous little soul. Well and truly up to speed too judging by the panning shot. t-up

Harley isn't my dog and the chances are I won't meet him again. I often stop people and ask it it would be ok for me to take a shot of their dog. It transpired that Harley's owners were from the same part of the north of England where I grew up and the husband was very interested in photography so we ended up having a good chat about various things. :)

This is Sam, a young female. I agree with you about the Dobermann, I think that they are the perfect family dog in fact. I worked overseas for about thirty years so looked after literally 100's of dogs for people going on long home leaves, and decided then that I would have them.
I waited until I quit travelling though because the Dob is very special in some respects, and certainly not the dog for a flat or inner city dweller because it needs so much exercise. Very intelligent and so easy to train, very affectionate and has a real need for human companionship and can get bad tempered if they don't have it. You will never be alone if you have a Dob in the house.

She's a beauty and that's a lovely shot. :)

Our neighbours rescued a black Lab (Lady) when she was about 10 months old and she chewed her way through a couple of their doors and dug a hole in the kitchen floorboards before she finally settled down. :D

She grew to be the most wonderful dog, very intelligent and perceptive. She died aged almost 14 and half the neighbourhood was broken hearted because she was such a fantastic, gentle playmate for to the neighbourhood kids.

One of the neighbour's chewed doors never did get replaced - it's still just a hole in the wall after all these years. *LOL

she looks young enough to be able to move on from her past, and labs are extremely intelligent, to be able to get her to stand like that for a photo, she already is doing well.

on a good note though I rescued a dog at 4years old with a few problems, ended up with a fantastic dog I never regretted once for rescuing for the next 12 years.

As she grew bigger her head grew to the same shape as Ben's, with funny ears on top, like Ben's - and she also had 'goldfish bowl' eyes, like Bens.

She was a real softie, made 'talking' noises that were hilarious, especially when she used to clamber onto my father-in-law's lap and kinda 'talk' to him.

Have fun with that new camera too, though I'm sure you will! ;)

Ok Pol, this isn't exactly a Pembroke Corgi but he's mine and he's paid for :D

Actually Juice is a Staffordshire / Boxer cross and although he looks like a thug, he is in fact a wonderfully natured, loyal mutt. He's two years old and we rescued him last year (from Manchester Dogs Home) following the death of our beloved German Shepherd, Fred :(

If I'm honest, he's more of a mummy's boy than Fred was (as the picture here kinda demonstrates...), but he'll lick and then lie on pretty much anyone who so much as looks at him. Stephen will testify to that... :D

Just call me Big Bob  :D

They're much, much harder to train than GSDs (of which we had two before we got Juice), but they're absolutely brilliant pets and great with other dogs and kids alike. My two GSDs were nowhere near as sociable (they don't tend to be in all fairness; aloofness is their main characteristic) but nowhere near as stubborn either...

Because he's larger than a Staffie (he's the height of a Boxer with a Staffie head), the misinformed tend to assume he's a Pit Bull, which means you sometimes see them grabbing their dogs and heading for the exits in fields and parks. However when people approach him and realise he's actually a very friendly, trustworthy sorta fella, they change their tune. The local dog people absolutely adore him, which is a total contrast to when I had Fred, who was vast (even for a GSD) and who attacked ALL dogs without provocation..........:o

Fred, who was vast (even for a GSD) and who attacked ALL dogs without provocation..........:o

Our last Pembroke Corgi was the usual waddler with legs no longer than 8" (at the most). 'Cow Hocks' from behind (knock knees on corgis). She went for more than just a few huge dogs too. She also liked to nibble ankles and trouser legs, typical Corgi behaviour.

So is Juice named thus because he drips and dribbles? *LOL

:D He he.............no, actually he had been named "Zeus" (I know, I know... :( ) by his previous "owners" (a term I'm deliberately using loosely - they tried to make him fight...), so I immediately wanted to disassociate him with his past and start afresh.

His colouring is so unusual (almost orange in direct light), so we figured "Juice" would be ideal, particularly as it rhymed with "Zeus" and therefore wouldn't confuse him. So there you go ;)

Nice bit of name tweaking there! I'd assumed he was Brindl but apparently he's an orange Juice then, eh. :D

Some of my friends used to nickname me "Queenie" because of my Corgis.

Pol,

He has the brindle markings, however he's more orange than brown (maybe we shoulda called him Dale..........), so the name tweak seemed appropriate :D

A beautiful dog & a really great pic. Those eyes are so intelligent! I used to own a Rotweiler Cross Doberman (in South Africa) that had to be put down 'cos of cancer. He was a superb guard dog but soft as putty with people he knew! My housemate called him Vincent (as in Van Gogh...missunderstood):)

Hello All,

Tommorow around 1pm I am going to have to take this guy to the humane society. He would be good anywhere but in the country. He almost killed a calf when he got of his chain. he had a 25 ft chain attached to a 100 ft run. It Is going to be so sad*cry. But The lady there said she could find a home for him:\*sob. But the bright side is that we are going to get 2 new puppies:eek:*ipop, I will still miss good ole' Cowboy!

He looks like he has a good part Staffordshire Terrier in him! They do seem quite aggressive little critters at times! However, it is always difficult to part with one's pets for whatever reason! Some of us love them like another member of the family! Hopefully you will make a good choice in puppies! Perhaps those suited to working dog lifestyle, that are good to train! Best of luck

Mine too. It's a very sad situation, I felt completely useless and upset for her. :(

I hadn't realised she and the animals were homeless when I started chatting to her and asked if it was ok to take a few shots of the dogs - all of them adorable! Coco has a litter of puppies just 4-5 weeks old and they were in the car too, all settled in a nice bed made from a plastic bowl and blankets. She showed me the pups and was fighting back tears when she told me about her situation.

I asked if anything was being sorted out and apparently someone is trying to sort out a mobile home for her on or next to a farm - so fingers crossed it'll work out well for them.

It was very obvious she adored those animals and cared for them very well. It's too awful to think about what might happen if she remains homeless much longer. Life can be very cruel at times. :(

Took the camera on our walk tonight (19.03.2007), so I thought I'd post another shot of Juice into this thread, which has been by far my favourite since joining the site. Like many of us here, I adore dogs regardless of their pedigree or appearance and to see so many expressive and characterful mutts in one place is a real treat :D

Having rescued Juice last summer following the death of my GSD, Fred, I took him to a specialist last week for a check-up, primarily because I had to leave him in the kennels for a night while my partner and I did a job in Inverness. Anyway, the vet told us that he was almost definitely a bullmastiff cross (more than likely with a staffie), which went some way to explain his size - he's only 18 months old and weighs 6 stone...

Anyway, here he is with his latest stick. My girlfriend was the (momentary) focus of his attention...

I try not to experience that pleasure too often Pol, although my other half will happily lie on the sofa of an evening with Juice flat out on top of her

However when we're outside and he's bounding around like this, it's advisable to retreat to a safe location (behind a wall........into a ditch..........up a tree...), especially when he's carrying half of that tree in his mouth

Nice one! ...... ROFLMAO_PMP *LOL

We once looked after a (Dulux) Old English Sheepdog dog for a while and she used to flatten me. There was no way I could get up if she lay on me. She could also knock David over if she decided to jump up to greet him. She was so huge, so tall she'd be looking down on him when she had his front paws on his shoulders.

It was a nightmare trying to take her for a walk 'cos she used to drag me along the field face down. I couldn't let her off the leash 'cos she'd been diagnosed as being almost deaf.

I was very relieved to hand her back to the owner/trainer. :D

I simply adore Dobermann Dogs Roger, my absolute favourite breed. One day I really hope to have one myself. I already have a name for mine, Blitz, sadly with my little garden, it simply wouldnt be fair. Maybe one day!

Got any more shots of this regal doggy? And whats his/her name?

We love Dobers too, got three large prints on the wall (sadly not images I took). Also here too we have no room or time at the moment for a dog. May end up getting a Staffie if we buy a house this year as theyre a little smaller. I dont think the cats will be pleased either way
