Bought a 5d today. it is still in its box.:o

Gone for 5d+ grip
canon 24-105 L
Sigma 70-200 mm DG F2.8 macro

Already have sigma 105 mm macro

didn't want the 70-300 DO - just wasn't using it and the 10-20 sigma doesn't work on the 5d

hence the sale. Thanks for the Url tips I will sort that.

Best regards

Josh

Congrats! :)

Just one curiosity, you are preferring a lower-reach zoom when the FF sensor in the 5D will not 'boost' telephoto reach like your old 20D did?

Yes.

really have moved away from any wildlife photography (which is really the only time I used my 70-300). My interest is macro, landscape and I desperately want to take better pictures of people.

I think that my lens selection compliments this. I said I think:D . So who knows.

best regards

Yep, a pretty impressive lineup there Josh. 24mm was always a nice lens in the 35mm days, great for landscape work. However, I'd be tempted to acquire the 17-40mm f4L at some stage, its going to be like having that 10-20 back, with just a bit of extra reach. That 24-105 is a stonking lens though and the IS makes up for the F4. I'd have it and the 5D as an extra body if I could justify the expense :)

I actually have the 17-40L already. It has been on my 20d for a while. but there are a number of posts on the net that say it doesn't work well with a 5d. i.e the quality is up to it.

Therefore I am tempted to ebay it.

Actually whilst you are on I am having a weired problem. My first shots on the 5D start at image number 8345 not 0001. Someone has said it is becauase i am using the card from the 20D and that is where i was on that. But I have reformatted and still no change.

It is a minor thing but I do like to understand why things happen. have you had this issue with your 1D?

Oh and no I haven't read the destructions yet:o

Job for tonight

The 17-40 is certainly not an inferior lens. As you know Bearface has the 5D and most of the images he has posted here are using this lens. You just can't argue with the evidence. :) It is possible that you get a bit of vignetting at wide apertures, but Tim has rarely experienced that as far as I know. Its very easy to eliminate anyway as you will know.

I have heard about the numbering problem, but not experienced it. I'm pretty sure there is a way of resetting the in camera numbering, it may be in the manual.

I knew I remembered reading something about it on another forum. I've just found it HERE (http://www.worldphotographyforum.com/showthread.php?t=1240&highlight=file+numbering)
