I live on a Retirement Park and all the homes here are of the Park Home type. For those that have never seen this type of home let me assure you they are just as good as brick-built bungalows. Very easy to maintain and ideal for the likes of me in their late years. This past few months the Park has been under development and the first of the new homes have started to arrive. Here are some pictures to show how this is all done. All homes are factory built and fitted with wheels. Very similar to a very large caravan. These pictures show one being transported to its plot. They come in two halves and are bolted together on site. Once in position and all services connected a brick wall is built around the base to finish them off.
This picture will take you to the gallery where you can view all the pictures in sequence.

Great set of pics and a bit of an education as well.

What's the lifespan of one of these homes?

That is hard to say as it dose like any property depend on how well it is maintained. I can only say that the one I purchased was 30 years old. It had been neglected so I spent a few bob on it to get it up to scratch. I paid just £13,000 for it and then had the out side walls stripped off and new insulation installed with new outer wall boards then refitted. All new windows which we changed to bay windows and patio-doors added. A new roof was also fitted (they look like tiles but are all aluminium) and new guttering and fascia boards. Sounds drastic don't it, but 5 men took 4 days to complete the work and that included the special paint coating to our colour choice. Ok so that lot cost just under £12,000. So total cost to me of £25,000 and a further 20 year warranty is not bad considering it's now worth £89,000. I've lived here 5 years and would not go back to brick-built. Highly recommended. That new one, which is one of the larger ones (45 foot long) now cost £165,000 but that includes a fully furnished home and a separate garage.

I'm well pleased and a lot happier living here in Suffolk than when I lived in Essex.
