DP Now Salon Competition # 106 "MOVEMENT"
Thanks to Jim for choosing my photo and congrats to the runners up Mike Parr and Caz from the last salon. As I was so busy, I'd forgotten that I'd entered the competition (apologies for "being away"). Getting the email from Ian informing me that I'd won was a very pleasant surprise and totally unexpected considering I'd forgot and it was the first salon I'd entered.
Onto the subject, I'd like to get the feeling of movement from your images. Frozen in time or motion blurred, or maybe something a little bit different or unusual to give the impression of movement.
1.All photographs are to be uploaded to the photo gallery at http://dpnow.com/galleries/
They can be put in members own gallery if they wish. The resulting link generated for the foto/photo will then be pasted into the next available space in the salon tread. Please keep photos to a maximum of 800 pixel wide so people can see the whole image without scrolling.
2.One entry per user ID only please, which must be the personal work of the entrant.
3.Entries should be "in line" within the thread (not as a links to an image held somewhere else)
4.Comments only on entries are welcome within the salon thread itself.
5.After the close the curator will indicate a winner and a couple of runners up.
6.The curators decision is final.
7.Winners should be offered first refusal to choose the next theme and curate the next salon.
8.If the winner is unable to curate the next salon the current curator may offer that "honour" to any willing volunteer, possibly the entrant in second or third place.
9.These rules are to be copied and pasted with the new theme by the curator at the top of the new salon thread with a finish date and time.
10.As with all photos posted on DPnow, copyright remains with the photographer an DPnow will not use them without permission.
11.Please don`be shy and put yourself to work.It is all about having FUN.
The salon will run for two weeks and close at midnight GMT 24-5-2011.

Ah so that's where they go (after all they are Canada Geese). Although a lot don't seem to be bothered to migrate back to Canada from here in the UK! :)

And sadly, Ian, they have greatly expanded their territory to encompass most of North America as well. Too many well-intentioned humans have taken to feeding these birds, and now their population has exploded to the point a great many communities consider them pests these days. Case in point, this photo. A gentleman was feeding these birds when a dog took chase to them. I snapped this shot of the geese as they were fleeing the curious canine.

Hi here is my entry, my son at a funfair taken with a slow shutter speed to capture the moving lights on the rides.

This photo is of me at a ski race so obviously I didn't take it but I've always liked it. It never would have occurred to me to take a shot with intentional blur.

I never got the chance to ask the photographer how he did it. I'm guessing he panned while using a slow shutter speed?

The result
Apologies for the delay, it's been another busy week. Thanks for all the entries and the opportunity to do some judging. It's my first go at anything like this. Anyway here goes.
In 3rd place is Gentle.Ivy with a valiant attempt "To win the race".
2nd is Kurt, he didn't leave a name or caption for his photo, I liked the double sense of movement of the children and the water.
1st place goes Veggiesosage with "Underground". For me, this fit the subject very well and I get a strong impression of movement, well done and over to you.
Cheers
Rich
Congratulations Vegiosage (a cracking shot) and GentleIvy with a fine example of panning. And thanks for mentioning my attempt, Rich.
