View Full Version : DPNow Salon Competition No 89 - PETS & ANIMALS
Thanks to Gina for picking me as the winner of her Abundance salon!
The theme for Salon 89 is.... PETS & ANIMALS. Let's see some pictures of your dogs, cats, birds, horses... whatever you may have for a pet. And if you don't have pets, any animal will do! Looking forward to seeing your entries. Have fun... and good luck!
Closing date is July 26th, 2010 at 12:00 GMT.
The rules are as follows:
1. All photographs are to be uploaded to the photo gallery at http://dpnow.com/galleries/. They can be put in members own gallery if they wish. The resulting link generated for the foto/photo will then be pasted into the next available space in the salon tread. Please keep photos to a maximum of 800 pixel wide so people can see the whole image without scrolling.
2. One entry per user ID only please, which must be the personal work of the entrant.
3. Entries should be "in line" within the thread (not as links to an image held somewhere else)
4. Comments only on entries are welcome witin the salon thread itself.
5. After the close the curator will indicate a winner and a couple of runners up.
6. The curators decision is final.
7. Winners should be offered first refusal to choose the next theme and curate the next salon.
8. If the winner is unable to curate the next salon the current curator may offer that "honour" to any willing volunteer, possibly the entrant in second or third place.
9. These rules are to be copied and pasted with the new theme by the curator at the top of the new salon thread with a finish date and time.
10. As with all photos posted on DPNow, copyright remains with the photographer and DPNow will not use them without permission.
I'll set the ball rolling :)
Here's Rosie taken just over a year ago, about a month after we received her from the Rescue Hen people:

What a handsome fella (assuming Milo is a lad!) :)
No exif data in the gallery? Is this by choice?
Ian
Ian more by habit than anything - I am in the habit of hitting "save for web and devices" in Photoshop which, I believe, strips all the exif data out ! I must get into the habit of saving directly to JPEG instead. Is there anything in particular you wanted to know ? BTW Milo is a lad !

Try Shift, CMD, S as a shortcut Bear ;)
PS CS4 and later Save for Web does now allow metadata to be retained if you require. I was curious about the focal length and aperture mainly. :)

Spotted in Puerto de Vega, Spain.

No pets, but this little fellow looks cute enough, although he didn't seem to trust me, judging from that beady look!
Thanks for the CS4 tip Ian - have just upgraded so will look into that. Milo was shot using my E3 + 12-60, 1/200th sec, f9, ISO 100, flash using my Elinchrom two head DLite setup.

Long time since I've been around, but the theme is perfect for a shot taken tonight.

It's good to see you here again and especially with such a fantastic photo to share! The teeth are beautiful - so white, clean, pearly and perfectly exposed.

I don't know if my monitor is calibrated properly but they are just whiter than white on mine and I'd wondered why. She is pretty, I'd love to see a recent photo of her, I've seen this many times. The beautiful Simone.

A crafty addition of some negative space methinks, certainly improves the composition

Well if I am being truthful which I will be it was a bit of a grab shot. I was testing one of my flash units and the cat was just rolling around on the floor in front of me. It would have been rude of me not to take his picture :).

Yes true and not something I would normally do but I think it sort of works here :).

I really like that Mike - great pose, classic ears! It's a lovely portrait of a foal.

I agree with Ian on this. I feel someone is going to have their hands full picking a winner from this lot and I am glad it's not me :)

Fortunate for you, but unfortunate for me! There are so many great entries.... and still 3 days to go!! The judging may take some time!! *ipop

No pets in our house apart from trouble 1 & 2 in human form as in Tom and Em! Ohh and Brucey the goldfish, but he always hides behind his rock, no chance of a portrait from him :\
This was taken today at Blackpool Zoo!

fantastic!!!
Well, after quite some deliberation, I've finally come to a decision. There were so many great entries and judging this Salon has been anything but easy!
1st place - MIKE PARR (Love the pose of the foal and the pattern of his hair on his forehead)
2nd place - ASH (Amazing colour in the peacock, great choice for a last minute entry)
3rd place - BEAR (Fabulous photo of Milo against the white background)
Thanks to everyone for your entries! There were so many great photos of the animals.
And good luck to Mike on your next Salon Competition.
