Leica SL firmware 2.2 and Summilux SL ships

Press release issued by Leica UK:

Firmware update 2.2 for Leica SL with improved support for Leica Image Shuttle software and Leica Summilux-SL 50mm f/1.4 ASPH. lens – available today

Leica Camera has released Firmware Update 2.2 for the Leica SL mirrorless system camera, improving support for the Mac versions of Leica Image Shuttle 3.5 and Tethered Plug-in 1.1.0., as well as supporting the new Microsoft Windows version of Leica Image Shuttle 3.5.

Registered Leica SL owners can download the new software and firmware updates from the Leica Owners’ Area (https://owners.leica-camera.com) or take their camera to their local Leica Store or Leica Customer Care in the UK for a complimentary installation.

Leica Image Shuttle 3.5 improves workflow efficiency for tethered shooting with the Leica SL and allows the camera to be controlled from a computer via a USB 3.0 cable connection. All relevant exposure parameters such as shutter speed, aperture, ISO value and autofocus can be set and controlled from the computer, and exposures can be displayed directly on a large monitor screen for assessment.

The Leica Tethered Plug-in 1.1.0 (for Mac) – also available as a download from the Leica Owners’ Area – establishes a direct connection between the Leica SL and Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 6 / CC for Mac via USB cable. The camera’s shutter release can be activated from the plug-in and the images captured can be displayed directly in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 6 / CC (for Mac), making the workflow even faster and more reliable. The corresponding firmware update is required for the use of Leica Image Shuttle and the Leica Tethered Plug-in.

Firmware update 2.2 also removes the shutter speed limitation when shooting with 6-bit coded Leica M-Lenses, while further optimising the performance of the Leica SL system.

Available from today, the Leica Summilux-SL 50mm f/1.4 ASPH. is the first prime lens for the Leica SL-System and sets a new standard in its class. Its large maximum aperture makes this high-performance lens ideal for photography in challenging lighting conditions, and enables the use of shallow depth of focus as a creative tool. Furthermore, the fast, precise and reliable autofocusing ensures that photographers can concentrate fully on composition and creativity. The lens’ combination of resolving power and soft bokeh in unsharp areas clearly isolates subjects from their background, particularly when shooting at maximum aperture.

Accessory Lenses Now Also Compatible with iPhone 7 Family

The ExoLens® PRO with Optics by ZEISS accessory lenses are now also compatible with the iPhone® 7 family

New ‘Edge’ bracket available at camera speciality stores beginning at the end of January 2017

OBERKOCHEN/Germany, 09/12/2016.

The three accessory lenses with the new family name ExoLens®1) PRO with Optics by ZEISS are now also compatible with the iPhone®2) 7 family. The new Edge bracket with six device-specific inlays for the iPhone® 6 and iPhone® 7 families will be available at camera specialty stores starting at the end of January 2017. The bracket for the iPhone® 7 as well as the wide-angle accessory lens are now also available at camera specialty stores.

“We can now confirm the compatibility of the existing accessory lenses for the entire iPhone® 7 family in addition to the iPhone® 6 family,” says Michael Schiehlen, Senior Director of Sales, Marketing and Service in the Camera Lenses division at ZEISS. “The ExoLens PRO with Optics by ZEISS accessory lenses work exclusively with the wide-angle camera on the iPhone®3) 7 Plus. All existing lenses are generally compatible with the iPhone® 7 Plus, but due to the built-in 2X telephoto camera on the device, we recommend using the ExoLens PRO Wide-Angle and Macro-Zoom with the iPhone® 7 Plus primarily,” explains Oliver Schindelbeck, Product Manager at ZEISS. “The technology for these accessory lenses has not changed. The addition of ‘PRO’ to ‘Optics by ZEISS’ is just an enhanced product name to better distinguish it from ExoLens’ own PRIME line,” explains Schiehlen.

The new Edge bracket

The new and compact Edge bracket, which is mounted on the corner of the smartphone, will be available at camera specialty stores beginning at the end of January 2017. The bracket also features a cold shoe mount for attaching additional accessories such as external light sources. “An extra small key ring loop hole makes it possible to affix the mounting solution to a keychain when it’s not being used,” says Schindelbeck.

iPhone® 7 bracket and wide-angle accessory lens available à la carte

The new iPhone® 7 bracket package is now available at camera specialty stores. It also contains inlays for the iPhone® 6 and 6s. The bracket also features an integrated standard tripod mount and a cold shoe mount.

Leica Q ‘Titanium gray’

Press release issued by Leica UK:

A perfect fusion of technology, design and style

Leica Q Titanium Grey
Leica Q Titanium Grey

Leica Camera has revealed the Leica Q ‘Titanium gray’, bringing a brand new, alternative design to its successful, high-performance compact camera, the Leica Q, which features a fixed fast prime lens and full-frame sensor.

In contrast to the discreet black of the body, lens and leather-style trim of the original Leica Q, this stunning new model offers a titanium grey paint finish on the top and base plate and back of the camera, combining the premium look of precious metal with classic black elements.

Elegant, yet extremely durable, the Leica Q ‘Titanium gray’ includes a series of striking design features not found on the standard model. For example, the distance scale in feet and the focal length on the lens are highlighted in red. Furthermore, the colour-coordinated carrying strap supplied with the camera has been manufactured from strong, robust material most commonly used to make climbing ropes.

Leica Q Titanium Grey

Offering the same impressive performance and technical specifications of the black Leica Q model, the Leica Q ‘Titanium gray’ features intuitive handling and an exceptionally fast lens. The perfect camera for street, architectural and landscape photography, its Leica Summilux 28mm f/1.7 ASPH. lens makes the Leica Q ideal for available light shooting and has an angle of view that reproduces scenes with natural perspectives and proportions.

With a 24 MP, full-frame CMOS sensor precisely matched to its lens, the Leica Q ‘Titanium gray’ delivers richly detailed exposures with low noise at optimum quality, at ISO sensitivities of up to 50,000.  This outstanding camera allows the greatest possible creative freedom for even the most demanding photographic ambitions, enabling the photographer to switch effortlessly between macro, automatic and manual focusing.

Ensuring the decisive moment is never missed, the Leica Q full-frame compact camera has the fastest autofocus in its class and offers precision focusing almost in real-time. Furthermore, its Leica ultra-fast Maestro II image processor enables continuous shooting at up to ten frames per second at full resolution. Allowing reliable control of subject composition at this speed, the Leica Q also features an integrated viewfinder with a resolution of 3.68 MP – displaying even the finest details without any perceptible lag, as soon as the camera is brought up to the user’s eye.

Leica Q Titanium Grey

All functions of the camera are clearly laid out and logically placed, making it exceptionally ergonomic to use. The clear and logical menu provides rapid access to all essential functions and also enables photographers to programme their own personalised settings.

In addition, the Leica Q delivers movie recording in full-HD quality. Depending on the scene and subject, users can choose between 30 and 60 full frames per second for video recording in MP4 format. The camera also features an integrated Wi-Fi module for wireless transmission of still pictures and video to other devices, and remote control by WLAN from a smartphone or tablet.

The Leica Q app enabling these features can be downloaded free of charge from the Leica web site. As well as providing a remote release function and display of the viewfinder image, the app also allows the setting of parameters such as aperture and shutter speed from the device employed.

Full product specifications can be found at: uk.leica-camera.com.
