couple of questions 19 February 2006 3:36 pm

Hey, it's nice to see someone reviewing a production sample and posting pictures taken with it.

The noise comparison is interesting; my question is whether you have already printed any of your high-ISO shots @ 300ppi - and if so, did you notice any noise in them. The way I see the noise issue, there's no real point in comparing noise levels beyond what's actually visible in a good-quality print. If the differences are so subtle that you need a magnifying glass to spot them in the actual prints, then they are simply not significant. That's why I'm asking about the prints.

I also have a couple of questions regarding the optical TTL finder and the live preview. You mention that the viewfinder image is small albeit apparently somewhat bigger than that provided by the E-500. I wonder if Oly sent you an ME-1 magnifying eyecup along with the camera and lens. If so, what do you find the viewfinder magnification with the thing on?

In Phil Askey's preview, there was no mention of a live histogram overlay in either of the live modes. Does the manual speak of a feature like this, or is it really missing? Also, Mr Askey said the effects of exposure compensation and white balance setting were not applied to the live preview, unlike with digital point and shoots. Does this hold true for the production model too? And does the live image really flicker in Mode A if you turn "Live View Boost" on?

Finally, I wonder if you can get your hands on a Hoya R72 (or equivalent) infrared filter that you can attach to the lens. I'd be very much interested in learning whether you can see anything on the HypedCrystal monitor with an IR filter attached to the lens. Most DSLRs, including the E-330's predecessor, can be used for infrared photography with the aid of an IR filter, but the downside is you cannot see a thing in the optical viewfinder. That's why I'm curious whether composing on the back-panel monitor, in whichever live mode, is an option when an IR filter is attached to the lens.
