Released by Panasonic:

Panasonic’s World First Camcorder with 4-mega-pixel Still Image Quality

Panasonic is proud to announce the arrival of the new 3CCD NV-GS400 e.cam. This ground breaking video camera brings professional level technology to the consumer. With a profusion of innovative technology, not only does this video camera record beautiful moving footage, it can also record still images with breathtaking four-megapixel quality. Research has shown that the sublime NV-GS400 meets even the most demanding consumers’ needs with its compact body, exceptionally high quality images and superior ease of use.

At the heart of the NV-GS400 is the same type of 3CCD camera system used in professional broadcast equipment. This system, which uses a separate CCD to process each of the three primary components of light provides exceptionally pure, faithful colour. Picture quality is also enhanced by a Leica Dicomar lens, which uses advanced optical technology to provide exquisite image rendering with a 12 x optical zoom. Furthermore, Panasonic’s Crystal Engine advanced image-processing circuitry helps deliver maximum performance from the CCD camera system.

The design and usability of the NV-GS400 delivers exactly what consumers are looking for… According to a recent survey by Knots Online Research the most valued features for people looking to buy a camcorder are picture quality, size/weight and ease of use. Panasonic has provided these requirements plus much more with the new NV-GS400. New colour engines and technology have been developed to improve picture quality beyond expectations. The NV-GS400 adapts a universal design that assures superior ease of use - viewed as one of the most valued features on a camcorder according to almost 55% of people surveyed. The LCD monitor opens 120 degrees for easier viewing, and one touch of a button instantly doubles the monitor’s brightness for easy visibility on sunny days.

Encased in an extremely stylish and portable body is the Quad-Density Pixel Distribution technology that allows you to record still images with four million pixels – a world first for the industry! It captures all of the outstanding detail, colour and sensitivity made possible by the 3CCD camera system. The NV-GS400 is also the world’s first digital video camera to perform simultaneous recording of motion picture and still images without having to switch recording modes[1]. This is made possible by the inclusion of an SD Memory Card slot, allowing you to record 1.2-megapixel still images onto an SD card while at the same time recording moving pictures onto the Mini DV tape.

Further enhancing the professional feel to this new camcorder, whilst maintaining simple usability are the two optical image stabilisers, the O.I.S. for moving pictures and the MEGA O.I.S. for still images. The MEGA O.I.S system takes O.I.S. technology one step further by adding a sensitivity selector. This allows the camcorder to provide about twice as much hand-shake correction when shooting still pictures as conventional O.I.S provides with moving pictures. MEGA O.I.S. can even correct for hand-shake when you’re shooting still pictures with the zoom or macro function, or when shooting in dim lighting.

A host of features make the NV-GS400 an exciting and creative piece of equipment. On the quality front, Pro-cinema Mode lets you shoot videos with a movie-like textural quality and realism. The control needed to shoot highly expressive images is provided by the High-Speed/Slow-Speed Shutter whilst the Tele Macro Mode means you can shoot extreme close-ups while maintaining a distance of 50cm from your subject. It doesn’t compromise on quality when shooting in the dark either, providing beautiful colours with help from Super Colour Night View with Light Panel. The Multi-Manual ring makes NV-GS400 even more accessible for budding movie makers allowing the easy adjustment of zoom, manual focus, shutter speed and iris settings. You can even shoot pictures that look beautiful on a large wide-screen television with the High-Picture-Quality Mode (16:9). Then when you’ve finished your filming its USB 2.0 compatibility lets you transfer DV data to your PC’s hard disk at high speed using a single USB cable. Because the system conforms to the USB Video Class standard, you can also transfer DV data in real-time. Additionally, the DV/Analogue input and output terminals provide accessibility for easy editing. A whole host of technology packed into a smart, compact system!

Overall, the NV-GS400 embodies a stunning video recorder that provides breathtaking results in both moving and still picture formats.
