Kev is very new to Digital Photography Now but he is just the kind of budding photographer we are delighted to welcome here. From what we have already seen of his forum posts, Kev is enthusiastic and willing to experiment. Picture of the Day is not just about cutting-edge excellence; it's all about a good picture and Kev's photo of a frog may seem ordinary to some but I like the fact that it's sharp and the colours are fresh and natural. It's all the more impressive when you consider Kev used a simple Samsung point and shoot compact camera, too.

We are always on the look out for great pictures posted to the user-galleries here on DPNow. POTDs are selected from the gallery and featured every week day. The gallery facility here is completely free; all you need to do is register as a user on our discussion forum and you will automatically receive storage space good for around 125 pictures uploaded at web resolution. You can also easily use your gallery space to show your photos on the DPNow discussion forum and enter regular competitions like the DPNow Salon. When Kev recently started posting photos here we suggested he explore the effect of the 'rule of thirds' where you off-set the subject away from the centre of the frame because the eye finds it more natural to view. Kev has done just that with this picture and the frog is looking into space freed up by the framing. Well done Kev!
