Ménage à trois: the iriver iFP-1000 does three things at once
The new "mini-Toblerone" from iriver delivers perfect sound and razor - sharp images. It's an MP3 player, a digicam and a radio all in one. And it's in the shops now.
Eschborn, July 9, 2004. When a camera shacks up with a flash player and an FM tuner, things really start hotting up! The new iFP-1000 flash player series from iriver, the leading provider of innovative portable audio and video solutions in the digital entertainment segment, finally ties an exciting three-way knot. Superb design and functionality ensure that three is no longer a crowd. Two models with different storage capacities are available: The sleek black iFP-1090 has room for 256 MB, while its champagne-colored "big brother" can handle twice as much data (512 MB). Weighing in at a featherweight 63 grams (including the battery) and measuring just 9 x 3.1 x 3.4 cm (WxHxT), the newcomer from iriver is a masterful study in concentrated fun potential. Small is indeed beautiful!
Music to set your pulse racing
The centerpiece of this elegant threesome is the flash player. Thanks to a signal-to-noise ratio of 90 dB and a balanced frequency response, listening to music has never been a more sensual experience. Boasting up to 35 hours' playing time, the removable lithium-ion battery is good for more than just a one-night stand, too. Multi-codec playback also highlights the sheer diversity of this compact device. The iriver iFP-1000 series already supports MP3, WMA and ASF formats. And a firmware update (available from mid-July) will also add Ogg Vorbis. As far as sound quality is concerned, the integrated FM tuner is no less impressive than its soul mate. An antenna fitted in the earpiece wire ensures excellent reception under any conditions.
No lack of visual appeal
A digicam completes the happy trio, injecting a special flair into a unique relationship. The CMOS sensor delivers optimal image quality at a true resolution of 640x480 pixels. The right balance of distance and intimacy is guaranteed by a 3x digital zoom. A 1.2" color display makes picture shooting child's play. An enticing array of effects - from sepia and monochrome to negative and solarization - offers endless attractive variations. And the final touches are added by a generous range of accessories: an earpiece, protective pouch, wrist-strap and carrying strap supplied with the player as standard. If even if this is not enough for your tastes, this sexy little all-rounder also sizes up as a personal secretary, complete with dictation function and integrated microphone.
Prices and availability
The recommended retail price is £169 (Euro 249) for the iriver iFP-1090 (256 MB) and £235 (Euro 349) for the iriver iFP-1095 with twice as much storage capacity (512 MB). Both players are in the shops now.
