8: X's Drive II update

According to Card Media, demand for the X’s Drive II has been phenomenal and the first consignment of production units has already sold out. But the good news is that a second shipment has been ordered.

For full information on the X’s Drive II see our recent story by clicking here.

Making its public debut from Card Media at the show was a new hard drive-based multimedia card reader and player, the Cinema Disk. Designed to play both audio and video media, including MPEG2 video, the Cinema Disk can be plugged into a TV or used with earphones.

Of more interest to photographers is the fact that it can display JPEG images via an attached TV, including slide shows. We’ll be bringing more information on the Cinema Disk soon.

Original X's Drive firmware upgrades

Finally, a note for anyone who owns an original Mark 1 X’s Drive, if you aren’t sure if your firmware is up to date, you can get the upgrade online by clicking here. The latest v 1.19 driver upgrade can be installed under Windows 98 or 2000.

It's advisable to upgrade in order to avoid file corruption caused by file fragmentation.
