iView Multimedia, the Battersea, London-based software house, today launched iView MediaPro version 2.5, the latest version of its digital asset management solution with photographers, among others, in mind.

What's special about today's news is that iView MediaPro joins the Windows world for the first time in this release. In fact the package is being made available as a dual Mac and Windows compatible package. iView Multimedia hopes to double its million-plus installed base of mainly Mac users this year.

This isn't the first Windows version of iView Media – the 'light' version aimed at the mass market was launched just over a year ago. Originally mooted for summer last year, the gestation of the pro Windows version of iView Media took longer than expected, but the list of improvements compared with the light version is extensive, including:

  • Support for Adobe XMP and other 'pro' metadata standards

  • Exportable catalogues in a variety of formats including XML

  • Enhanced file and folder management

  • Support for embedded colour monitor profiles

  • Improved user interface

  • Improved image editing engine (based on Minolta imaging technology)

  • Support for RAW files (based on manufacturers' code, not reverse-engineered)

  • Support for multi-faced QuickTime slide shows

  • Flexible PDF publishing tools

  • Features common to all versions of iView Media include support for a wide range of file formats and file types, including audio and video files, plus extensive conversion options, drag and drop cataloguing, fast thumbnail creation, HTML gallery creation and CD content creation and burning.

Windows version not quite equal to the Mac version
The Mac version does appear to have a more complete feature set with, for example, scripting, absent from the Windows version.

iView MediaPro is priced £119 and registered owners of version 2.0 can upgrade to version 2.5 free of charge. Owners of earlier versions, or the light version of iView Media, can upgrade at reduced cost.

We've had a brief look at the Windows and Mac versions of iView MediaPro and it certainly looks good. As we have an evaluation sample to play with, in due course we will be letting you know how we get on after some more rigorous testing.

Get iView MediaPro at a bargain price
The previous Mac version 2.0 of iView MediaPro is currently available via Amazon UK for just £64.99. Registered users of version 2.0 can upgrade free of charge to the new Windows and Mac compatible version 2.5, which is a saving of £54.
