Building Foundations With Nikon
Nikon Launches New Student Photography Initiative
September 2010, Nikon UK: Nikon UK is today pleased to announce an exciting new student initiative; the Nikon Foundation, which aims to support and celebrate emerging photographers as they complete their education and begin their careers.
The Nikon Foundation is a competition open to final year students attending higher education photography based college or university courses across the UK and Ireland. By submitting a portfolio of images and a covering letter, students are in with a chance of winning the ultimate career enhancing prize; a 3 month internship with fashion and celebrity photographer John Wright and Nikon professional equipment worth £4000!
Jeremy Gilbert, Group Marketing Manager, Nikon UK says: “We recognise that getting a job in photography after education can be tough, which is why we have introduced this money can’t buy opportunity. We hope that the winner will pick up some valuable experience, tips and skills from John to help them progress their career.”
Whilst the Nikon Foundation is ultimately a photography competition, the shortlisted 10 finalists will each be interviewed by the panel of judges, including John, after which one winner will be offered the position with John and his team.
John Wright says: “I am delighted to be part of the Nikon Foundation and am really keen to support emerging photographers. I’m looking forward to seeing the portfolios and interviewing the finalists to find someone with raw talent, who is able to embrace a challenge and appreciates that a career in photography requires commercial awareness and drive and that succeeding is not just about taking pictures.
“I’m hoping to reward someone who shows the imagination, determination and commitment to excellence that’s necessary to fit in with my team, with the opportunity to gain a real hands-on introduction to the realities of succeeding in this industry.”
The competition will run from today until 31st March 2011, with the winners announced in April. The three month placement with John will commence in June 2011.
