This week's Picture of the Day selections start late because of the Focus on Imaging show. This low angle sand dune flora study by doc2949 is today's choice, and the second POTD here from this photographer. The caption in the gallery explains: "Because of all the hurricanes that have come ashore in the past few years the dune structure on many beaches have almost disappeared entirely. The sea oats are key players in dune restoration, dropping their seeds which sprout and help to capture and hold back the blowing sand, eventually restoring the dunes mother nature has blown and washed away. The sea oats that grow on the beaches along Florida's Gulf Coast are a protected species." The picture has deservedly earned a high rating in the gallery. Composition is very structured, with the bottom focused on the sand, then the eye is drawn up the stems and past the cloud in the mid-section, up to the delicate tops of the sea oats that stand out against the darkness of the blue sky.
