LONDON, (May, 2003) – LaCie announced today it is shipping its new portable PocketDVD-RW Drive equipped with blazing FireWire interface. Like its CD-rewritable counterpart, this compact DVD-rewritable drive features a rugged bumper guard for reliable protection and weighs only 1.4 pounds. An ideal companion for Apple® Power Mac® computers and PowerBook® laptop computers, LaCie’s PocketDVD-RW Drive delivers a complete, lightweight DVD recording and authoring solution.
DVD authoring in your pocket
LaCie PocketDVD-RW Drives ship with recording software for Macintosh operating systems, including Roxio Toast Lite for CD and DVD recording and CaptyDVD for full-featured DVD authoring. With it, users will have the means to perform a multitude of tasks in a few simple steps, including burning video, audio or photo CDs; and authoring professional-quality DVDs —
all from the road.
"This pocket-sized DVD drive provides users with a fast, easy and portable way to burn DVDs for backup, storage or archival purposes," said LaCie UK General Manager George Leptos. "Users will be able to easily transport and exchange video creations among workstations, or quickly back up a complete system when they’re on the go or working away from their desks. It’s perfect for burning a DVD on the fly or creating a custom music library anywhere you happen to be.”
Spacious DVD media
Offering generous storage capacity of up to 4.7GB, DVD general use discs are capable of storing as many as 1,000 MP3 songs, up to two hours of MPEG-2 DVD video, and as many as 500,000 documents. Durable, write-once DVD discs offer a reliable means of safely storing and archiving digital audio, video and data that cannot be erased or altered.
Perfect for burning music tracks and compiling MP3s, the LaCie PocketDVD-RW features a 2MB buffer and reads most CD and DVD formats. Functioning as an all-in-one recorder, this drive also offers CD-RW capabilities, and will burn a full 700MB disc in just five minutes. The LaCie PocketDVD-RW reads CDs at 24x speed, allowing for fast data access and file retrieval.
This versatile drive offers fast installation with immediate device recognition, as well as true plug and play convenience — no driver or software installation is required. Using the power provided by the FireWire bus, the LaCie Pocket DVD-RW can operate without an external power supply.
The LaCie PocketDVD-RW Drive will be available in May 2003 through LaCie’s authorized resellers and mail order partners at SRP £259 excl. Drives ship with a FireWire cable, CaptyDVD authoring software, Toast Lite CD and DVD recording software, and one free piece of DVD-R media.
