LG’s Viewty is back and better than ever
Boasting an 8 megapixel camera and intelligent features to deliver the best images
Berkshire, UK, 20 April, 2009 - LG Electronics (LG), a worldwide technology and design leader in mobile communications, today announces the LG Viewty Smart (LG-GC900). It features top-of-the-range camera capabilities including Intelligent Shot Mode making it easy for anyone to take great pictures.
The LG Viewty Smart bears the heritage of the first LG Viewty, which sold over 6.5 million units. It offers a number of upgraded features in addition to its Intelligent Shot Mode. These include an 8 megapixel sensor with sensitivity up to ISO 1600, a higher resolution WVGA touchscreen, a more intelligent image processor and LG’s advanced user interface (UI).
“LG Viewty is back and better than ever, with new smart camera applications that take care of all the complicated camera adjustments and processing for you,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President & CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “LG Viewty Smart represents the next generation of LG camera phones, and will drive LG leadership in the camera phone industry with its innovative, smart technology.”
Intelligent Shot Mode and advanced camera features
The LG Viewty Smart’s Intelligent Shot Mode analyzes the subject, background, and lighting conditions and compares the data against seven pre-programmed scenarios to take perfect pictures every time. Once the picture is taken, instantaneous feedback is provided, showing exactly how the camera is analyzing a particular scene.
Boasting 8 megapixels of resolution means the LG Viewty Smart’s pictures are sharp enough for printing and framing as well as simply sharing online. The ISO setting can be set to a maximum of 1600, allowing shots previously considered too dim or dark to be captured even without using a flash. This can be further augmented with the phone’s LED flash. The LG Viewty Smart adds several new camera features including Multi Face Detection and DVD-quality D1 video recording. Other camera features include Touch Shot, Art Shot, Beauty Shot, Panorama Shot and Continuous Shot.
An enhanced user interface adapted to the camera features
The LG Viewty Smart includes LG’s new easy-to-use 3D UI, which debuted on the LG Arena handset earlier this year. LG has tailored the UI around the LG Viewty Smart’s camera features with an on-screen dial which allows instant switching of shot modes and a thumbnail photo viewer that shows recently taken photos without having to switch to the photo gallery. Several touch options are available for zooming in and out, either a clockwise circle motion on the touchscreen to zoom in, and in the opposite direction to zoom out or using multi-touch pinching or stretching.
The LG Viewty Smart also offers a great viewing experience with a wide, sharp 3-inch WVGA screen providing a full 800 x 480 resolution display. With 7.2 Mbps HSDPA network and Wi-Fi compatibility, photos can be uploaded over the internet from the handset. Also, the A-GPS feature enables geo-tagging pictures to the exact spot where they were taken. This device is set to offer 1.5 GB of internal memory with the option to expand to 32 GB using a MicroSD card.
“LG understands the importance to consumers of being able to capture quick and spontaneous moments while out on the move. Building on the success and heritage of the Viewty brand, the new LG Viewty Smart, with its Intelligent Shot Mode, means now it couldn’t be simpler and quicker for mobile phone users to capture those special moments” said Jeremy Newing, head of marketing, LG Mobile UK”
Being just 12.4 mm deep, the LG Viewty Smart is the slimmest 8 MP camera phone currently available. The LG Viewty Smart will be available from Orange in the UK in May.
