Photographer Jon Hart Gardey Launches New Website Showcasing over 35 Years of Work
Jon Hart Gardey, the influential reportage and portrait photographer artist, whose diverse subjects over the past 35 years have included everything from the Ethiopian Civil War, to crossing the Sahara by hot air balloon, to photographing celebrities from George Harrison to Madonna. He has now gathered his life’s work, which he releases to the public this September via a brand new website www.gardey.co.uk.
Gardey’s expansive body of work spans all 5 continents, from the remotest areas of Africa and Asia to Europe and the USA. As recognition for his achievements and contribution to his art Gardey was awarded the National Art Directors Award for Photography in USA. Having also been a bush pilot, an explorer and a mountaineer, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.
Gardey divides his work into four separate mediums: People, Places, Nature and Design. Within these categories he captures the planet and its inhabitants with sensitivity and individuality. Iconic images such as the Golden Gate Bridge and Sydney Opera House are transformed under his eye and his reinterpretation leaves them as individual pieces of art in themselves, making them innovative and exciting works
The website features a selection of some 250 original images, with limited edition prints available for sale to the general public. Prices start at £350
Jon Hart Gardey – Biography
Gardey, who was born in American, now lives in the United Kingdom. Having studied physics, astronomy and meteorology at the University of California, he also became a pilot in the US Air Force. During his various careers, photography was always his driving passion, and he eventually decided to concentrate only on this profession.
He has travelled extensively in his quest to capture the planet and its aesthetic wonders, and much of his back catalogue draws in-depth attention to the inherent beauty of nature. He considers his photography to represent an expression of his passion for exploration, which is something that continues to inspire him.
At the core of Gardey’s work is the belief that the contemporary photographer’s unison with light is one the greatest privileges of all. Fundamentally, it is the photographer that gets to work, and to create art, with the primal energy of the universe in its purest form
His lengthy and detailed global travels are a distinct and powerful influence on his work.
Gardey has also been much in demand as a stills photographer for film and television.
He has amassed a collection of high profile portraits that cover royalty, film stars, celebrities and politicians. These include Tom Cruise, Angelina Jolie, Madonna, Sir Hugh Grant and Sir David Attenborough. He has worked on over 20 feature films, including Maurice and The Handmaid’s Tale, and has also covered many high profile events for the ABC network in the US, including Princesses Diana’s funeral and Tony Blair inside No.10.
