The Royal Photographic Society Announces New Workshops

The Royal Photographic Society (RPS) is pleased to announce six new photography workshops to add to its 2008 programme.  Building on the success of last year’s workshops, which attracted around 400 participants, the one-day and weekend courses have something for all photography enthusiasts.

Open to non-members and members of The Society, courses range from camera and darkroom skills through to digital and wedding photography.  Held at The Society headquarters in Bath, as well as other venues across the UK, the comprehensive schedule for August to October comprises 14 tailored sessions designed to enhance photographic knowledge and ability.

New workshops announced for 2008 include:

  1. Introduction to Camera and Darkroom Skills (City of Bath College, Bath)
  2. Introduction to Wedding Photography (Lacock Abbey, Wiltshire)
  3. Digital Photo-books (RPS Headquarters, Bath)
  4. Photography Weekend (with Cheltenham Photo Studios, Cheltenham)
  5. Wedding Photography (Lacock Abbey, Wiltshire)
  6. Digital Printing Workshop (RPS Headquarters, Bath)

One of this year’s highlights is the Documentary Photography course for Beginners, taking place in September and again in early October.  Specifically designed for digital SLR cameras – although you can arrange to use a compact digital camera – the course is a structured exploration of documentary photography.  Participants will develop an understanding of the meaning and purpose of social documentary photography, and how to structure a traditional photographic essay.  They will then go into the field, either at the National Amateur Gardening Show (6-7 September 2008) or the Dairy Show (30 September-1 October 2008), both of which are held at the Bath and West Showground, Shepton Mallet.  Participants will have the opportunity to capture spectacular subjects, including the biggest dahlia show in the world! The two-day course will be completed with a review session and feedback.
