November 2007
A recent poll found that, perhaps unsurprisingly, that 82% of the UK's population now own a digital camera. Now, with new website MyElephantBites.com, those of you with a digital photo or two can make your own "photomovie" and give a new lease of life to any digital photo.
Photographers and art lovers in general have been looking for some time to find the next step in digital photography. MyElephantBites.com is the next step in bridging the gap between digital photography and video editing.
MyElephantBites.com CEO and Founder, Crawford Hollingworth comments:
"I am enthralled by art and photography and I'm a huge movie fan. Perhaps because of this I've always felt that some of my own photographs had more energy and life than the static image could portray; the best seemed to have a whole movie lurking within them.
Digital photographs are brilliant, but they have a tendency to languish in the computer. I didn't want to lose all those special moments with my family and friends and decided to find a way to make them come alive. When I looked around for something to help me do this, I started drowning in boring and predictable slideshow offers (and haven't we all sat through enough slideshows to last a lifetime?). In the end I got my inspiration for the effects we've incorporated into MyElephantBites from watching many many (many) movies, music videos and documentaries. The software took thousands of hours to design and refine - it's a big challenge coding something so conceptual.
What you can do with your digital images and with MyElephantBites, is make completely individual short films. We've called them photomovies. I hope people are going to have a huge amount of fun creating them. I know that whenever I get to the shoot the movie moment in the movie-making process my heart beats that little bit faster!"
Photomovies are developed at MyElephantBites.com where a simple click leads to the creation of a unique photomovie (15 to 120 seconds long) incorporating words, special effects and music. This easy to use technology is a new way to bring your digital photos to life.
MyElephantBites.com uses ground-breaking patented technology borne out of research into film and TV techniques. The technology means that every photomovie is unique, and the varying levels of sophistication allow everyone, web-skilled or not, to make a photomovie which they can then share, with friends and family.
Ian West, Senior Photographer for the Press Association comments:
"Most people I know with digital camera will be clicking on to MyElephantBites.com this festive season. Anyone with just a little creative instinct can create a unique photomovie to send to friends. This is definitely the way forward for all those digital photos we have lurking in the archive. You can have hours or just minutes of fun in creating a photomovie."
More good news is that The World Land Trust will also benefit. For every thousand photomovies sold, MyElephantBites.com, will purchase and protect one acre of endangered rainforest. This year more people are being encouraged to use photomovies as an alternative to conventional Christmas cards.
The photomovies on MyElephantBites.com use single or multiple digital photos, and can be uploaded to Facebook or MySpace etc taking sites to a whole new level. Photomovies cost £2.50, and you don't have to pay anything until you are happy with your design. This is the perfect answer for those of you looking for a use for your archived digital photos!
Aside from Christmas, photomovies are perfect for all special occasions such as holidays , birthdays or simply keeping in touch with friends and family.
You don't have to be a web whizz-kid to create a photomovie, MyElephantBites.com is designed for both a complete novice or a web-wizard. Both can show their creativity with MyElephantBites. There's a variety of genres to choose special effects from, including: Science Fiction, Romance, Comedy and Horror to name but a few.
All aspiring film makers and creative novices or gurus will also enjoy the challenge of creating a photomovie as they work through different levels of expertise ranging from "Producer" to "Assistant Director" and ultimately the "Director" level - test yourself and keep in touch with friends using your library of photomovies. All members will have their own homepage where they can manage their photomovies.
Competition
MEB.com is offering a £500 prize for the most entertaining photomovie submitted this festive season [between November 1 and January 31].
In addition, newspapers and websites across the UK are calling on all aspiring news reporters to highlight an issue facing their community. Investigate a news story in your area and create a news report in the style of an MEB.com photomovie. The best will be shown on the MyElephantBites.com website and may enter the NewsHound Awards.
