The contents of an X's Drive II box. The two CDs are mini-CDs, one for Mac users and the other for Windows users. The power supply unit is compatible with virtually all AC mains voltages and frequencies, including Japan's 100V system. A well padded custom designed carry case comes with the X's Drive II and there is storage space for extra cards and the USB cable.

The x's Drive II is about 13.5cm (5.5 inches) wide. This shows both a Memory Stick and Compact Flash card fitted. The X's Drive II is claimed to be Memory Stick Pro compatible but we were unable to test this as no Pro cards were available at the time.

With both a MMC card and a Compact Flash card mounted, the LCD display confirms their presence. Note the status indicator makes no distinction between SD or MMC cards and always displays 'SD'. The LCD status display shows an animated sequence of arrow heads pointing from the Compact Flash indicator to the folder symbol when copying from a card to the X's drive.

Next to the power socket and protective flexible rubber flap for the mini-USB socket, is a hole for re-setting the unit. Both power and USB leads attach on one side of the unit.

All cards, including SmartMedia types, apart from Compact Flash, fit in the left hand slot. This means a maximum of one CF card and one other type can be fitted and be accessible at any given time. The X's Drive II SmartMedia card slot is very tight and nearly scraped the foil warranty sticker off this card.
