dpnow tech team help launch BBC Hitchhiker's revival adventure game

From digicams to Arthur Dent, the Hitchhiker's connection

Two of the key people behind the technical and visual redesign of this site unveiled last week have since been busy finishing off a high-profile online project for the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation), the UK's public service broadcasting organisation.

On Tuesday, BBC Radio Four broadcast a brand new episode of Douglas Adams' cult sci-fi comedy, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. To mark the start of the third radio series, an interactive adventure game written twenty years ago by the late Adams, was adapted for the Internet by the BBC and went live on Wednesday.

Sean Sollé (technical lead) and Shim Young (Macromedia Flash wrangler) joined Rod Lord (graphic designer behind the Hitchhiker’s TV series’ Bafta-winning guide animations) to create the new BBC-hosted 20th Anniversary edition of the game. Sean and Shim are, respectively, the technical and artistic members of the dpnow team responsible for our new-look that went live last week.

Adams associations
It's hard to get away from associations with Douglas Adams here as I interviewed him for Personal Computer World magazine several years ago and the chap responsible for the h2g2 servers that run the game lives just three minutes away from the dpnow office in Hemel Hempstead.

A photo of yours could become part of the game
And we have a link to this story of a photographic nature as well – there is a competition that will help Rod Lord complete the graphics for the game. Images, including photos, can be submitted.

Naturally, we're all Hitchhiker's fans here at dpnow and are proud to have a minor association with this latest BBC project and the perpetuation of Douglas Adams' memory.
